Lauren Adkins is an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (LAMFT) who brings warmth, curiosity, creativity, and clarity to her work with clients. She believes that meaningful change often begins with feeling truly seen and understood, and she is passionate about helping people develop healthier, more secure connection with themselves and with the people who matter most to them.
Lauren works with individuals, couples, families, ages 12 and older. She has particular experience working with women’s issues, autistic adults, trauma, grief and loss, religious transitions, and LGBTQ+ identity and relationships. She has specialized training and experience working with LDS and ex-LDS LGBTQ+ individuals, couples, and families, including those navigating questions around identity, faith, family relationships, and belonging. She understands that these experiences can be deeply personal and sometimes complicated, and she strives to create a space where clients can explore them without judgment.
Lauren also enjoys working with couples who feel caught in the same painful patterns and arguments, even when they genuinely love each other and want things to be different. With advanced training and experience in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), she helps couples slow down these cycles, understand what is happening underneath the conflict, and build more secure and connected relationships.
Lauren takes a collaborative, individualized, and values-centered approach to therapy. Rather than believing there is one right way to heal or grow, she works with each client to understand their unique experiences, values, strengths, and goals. Her approach draws from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, Solution-Focused Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), parts work, and attachment-based systemic approaches. Above all, Lauren strives to create an environment of emotional safety where clients can gain insight, feel understood, and move toward meaningful change.
Lauren is an Arizona native who grew up in Mesa and Queen Creek. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Marriage and Family Studies from Brigham Young University–Idaho and her Master of Advanced Studies in Marriage and Family Therapy, with distinction, from Arizona State University. Before becoming a therapist, Lauren spent more than five years working in the mental health field, where she discovered that her favorite part of the work was connecting with clients and hearing their stories. Lauren es bilingüe y ofrece terapia en Español.
Outside of the office, Lauren enjoys being a mother to her eight-year-old daughter and exploring Arizona. She loves crocheting, reading, craft projects, video games, trying new restaurants, and getting lost in a good TV show or movie.
